***Double Review*** of Truce (A Neighbor from Hell #4) by R.L. Mathewson

Elizabeth knows what’s expected of her, perfection. She’s the daughter of an Earl and expected to marry well, say and do the right things with a smile on her face when inside she’s dying for a chance to escape. Thanks to an inheritance her godmother left her years ago, her chance will come with her next birthday. Her hopes of escape abruptly end when Robert, her childhood nemesis that she hasn’t seen in over fourteen years, comes back into her life and does everything he can to drive her out of her mind even as he steals her heart.

He hated her.

At least, he tried to hate her, but it was so damn difficult to hate someone that he couldn’t live without. He tried to ignore her, tried to focus on anything but her, but nothing worked. Somehow she made her way into his heart and started to make him want things that he never though possible, made him smile and laugh even while she drove him out of his mind and started a legacy by turning him into…..

A Bradford.

Here’s an excerpt from Truce: A Neighbor From Hell

When he didn’t respond she got nervous. She looked up slowly to see him practically shaking with rage. She gulped. Giving him a tentative smile she asked, “Too far?”

Slowly he nodded. His fists clenched tightly.

“Oh dear.” She jumped to her feet and ducked just as he reached for her. For some reason she always went too far where he was concerned. It really couldn’t be helped though, it was too much fun to pass up.

She hiked up her skirts and ran as if her life depended upon it. With one look behind her she realized that it just might. He was chasing after her. She shrieked, but didn’t stop. Her father stepped out into the hall in front of her, flanked by James and Lord Bradford.

“Elizabeth?” he asked, stunned.

“Too far!” she said as if those two words would explain why a grown man was chasing his daughter. Evidently it did because all three men laughed and nodded knowingly. She didn’t stick around to see if her father was going to help her . There was a madman chasing her after all.

“Beth!” Robert roared.

Amy’s Review ~

What can I say about this book? I have been a huge R.L. Mathewson fan since I found her about 2  years ago. The first book I read was Playing for Keeps. The first Neighbor From Hell series and I fell in love and wanted more after every book. This book adds so much to the series and makes everything that much better. Didn’t think it was possible? Neither did I but it does.

To read more about Jason and Haley made me so happy. Their involvement in this book is very small but since they are the first couple I fell in love with it made me excited to read even a little glimpse into what was happening with them. Truce is written like a Historical but with a twist. This story is about how the Bradfords came to be.. Sigh.. How I love the Bradfords… Ok back to the review..

During Truce you will learn about the first stubborn as can be Bradford, Robert. Ohh how I loved Robert. You get to see how his family was, what he went through growing up thanks to Elizabeth and how everything came to be. I loved how this book played out. Love the tradition that was in the story. I just simply loved everything. I can’t name not one thing that had me disappointed. Well except that it ended. I hate when these books end.

Elizabeth was a sweet girl at first.. At least until Robert pushed her to her breaking point. That’s when all the fun started with the two. The things they do to each other. The revenge played on both sides. It all had me laughing at the things they came up with. The Orangery scene made me swoon. The love that bloomed was so sweet and amazing.  This book for me was simple perfect.

If you have never read an R.L. Mathewson book I suggest you start with this series. You will not be disappointed. Her books always have hot men, love, and laughter. You will not be able to put her books down once you start.

Nicole’s Review ~

I was giving an ARC of this book in return for my honest review. This book was fan-freakin-tastic!! I will admit I was worried about how this book would read especially being an “Historical” book, but I have to say R.L. nailed it like always. A heads up yes she wrote this book with a “historical” feel but this isn’t Stephanie Laurens style of writing. This books job in my eyes was to give us some insight to how the Bradford’s came to be. You will laugh your butt off and turning the page just to see what will happen next.

Elizabeth I love because in so many ways she reminded me of the past female leads in the other books in this series. Elizabeth is not your conventional woman especially not during the 1800’s, she wanted a love match and wasn’t willing to settle for less. She doesn’t care about the ribbons, fortune, or title, like majority of the ton did. Elizabeth had a passion for helping people less fortunate than her family, she wanted to make a difference in people’s lives.

Robert goodness what to say, his Bradford personality was slow to come out or at least the Bradford traits were are use to seeing. Robert is the second son of an Earl so he really isn’t in a rush to find a wife or settle down in his rakish ways. Robert has earned his way in the world and is proud to be the man he has become.

Robert and Elizabeth’s story starts when they are both young children growing up next door to one another. They have been playing trick on each other for many a years and finally one day they both cross the line. Even though they live close by, they have no contact for many, many years. That is until a season that will change both of their lives.

Their first encounter is not what you would expect and you will be shocked and amazed out what transpires between them. Granted this is just the beginning of their story and you truly will find what they do to one another hilarious. Unfortunately sometimes there are consequences for your actions and Elizabeth is going to learn the hard way, actually Robert will too.

It was fun watching these two characters battler their feelings for each other. What makes it the most fun is because like I said before getting a glimpse of the characters that came in the previous books in this series. There will be a moment where your heart is going to break for them, but just hold your breath and wait it out because after is when the real magic happens.

With all of R.L. books she takes us readers on an amazing ride. I love being able to laugh while reading and being able to fall in love with the characters which she always manages to do for me. You will not be disappointed in this book and I highly recommend it to all fans of humorous love stories.
