***Review of If I Were You (Inside Out #1) by Lisa Renee Jones***
When Sara McMillan finds a stack of journals in a storage unit, she’s shocked and enthralled by the erotic life the writer led. Unable to stop reading, she vicariously lives out dark fantasies through Rebecca, the writer—until the terrifying final entry.
Certain something sinister has happened, Sara sets out to discover the facts, immersing herself in Rebecca’s life. Soon she’s working at the art gallery Rebecca worked at and meeting Rebecca’s friends. Finding herself drawn to two dangerously sexy men, the manager of the gallery and a famed artist, Sara realizes she’s going down the same path Rebecca took. But with the promise of her dark needs being met by a man with confident good looks and a desire for control, she’s not sure anything else matters. Just the burn for more.
Nicole’s Review ~
I have to start by saying I read this book when it was originally released. Finally I have gone back through my older books and wanted to make sure that I gave this book a proper review. This is more of a 4.5 star review, this story is super sensual and sexy. There will be moments where your heart is beating from fear and the suspense. Then there is other times where you are going to be cheering on Sara, for not backing down from several dominant males.
From the first page you are sucked into this story and you don’t want it to ever end. You are taking on a fantastic ride from start to finish. Actually the finish kind of leaves you hanging, good thing all three books are out now and you don’t have to wait too long. Sara is a fantastic heroine, she is loving and caring in a way she is endearing. You would want a person like her in your corner. I loved how she is subtle with her support of the people around her. I am super excited to see where her personality takes her in this series.
Sara comes across a erotic/submissive journals that her friend found when buying storage lockers. Her friend is whisked away by her rich boyfriend leaving Sara the task of disposing of the locker’s content. For Sara just can’t seem to let the journals go or the person who has written them. She is on a mission to find out what has happened to Rebecca. Sara ends up getting as much information on Rebecca as she can and she has set out to do what she can. Only this crusade of sorts her life is beginning to take twist and turns she never imagined.
I love a book with a good dominant male character and in this one you get two and possible the looks of a third. First there is Mark, the owner of the art studio who Sara believes is the dominant in these journals. Sara meets Mark during her plan to find Rebecca and instead of getting answers she is offered a job that she cannot refuse. Sara finds herself drawn to Mark but at the same time knows that he has a darker side that she is not sure she wants to see. Next there is Chris Merit the dark and lonely artist that ensnares Sara from the moment they meet. Chris is very sweet and kind but at the same time he is rude and pushes Sara away from the art studio and himself. However he cannot keep away from her and soon they are both swept away in their sexual tension.
This book is not meant for children under the age of 18 nor is it for any readers looking for hearts and flowers. Lisa does a fantabulous job with adding the right amount of suspense and intrigue into the story. I find myself constantly wondering who is being honest and who has something more to hide. I love when a story can keep me guessing and in some cases biting my nails to see what is going to happen next. Ms. Jones’ knack for written is beyond impresses and I highly recommend this series.
