Spotlight: Not Quite Juliet: Club Imperial’s Silver Soul by Katherine Rhodes

unnamed (2)

Amazon

***Blurb***

One fateful night, by the grace of beer and peanuts, Morgan Kirkbride–the self-professed super fangirl of Silver Soul– falls for the sexy rock god, Nick D. Literally.

Lands on her ass right in front of him.

Morgan is sure the lead singer of Silver Soul thought she was a graceless flake, but instead asks her to a midnight diner and winds up back at her place. She’s captivated, but sure it’s just a crazy one-night fling. Imagine her shock when the very next Monday at Allegheny County Courthouse, the highly respected, well-credentialed chemist Dr. Nicholas Dovadsky is called as a witness, and Morgan recognizes him as the rock god who rocked her bed.

Sparks fly between them, but things get complicated – fast. When an ex-boyfriend returns to haunt Morgan and her roommate, no one takes him seriously. But when the simple threats become violent, perverse and horrifying, she realizes someone is out to get her.

Nick doesn’t intend for anything or anyone to stop him from getting to know the spunky, curvaceous, if clumsy, woman. He just keeps coming back…because there’s one thing he knows: he wants Morgan in his life, for good.

*****Excerpt*****

I took the offered hand and nearly swooned. Swooned. Who the hell swoons? I stood up and followed him through the mostly empty club as the staff was sweeping and pushing tables around. He didn’t let go of my hand as we wound through the tables to the door stage right.
This time, the little bitch in my head slapped me. I was being led backstage by the man I had a severe fangirl crush on, and we were going out for food and a chat. I almost dropped my cider at the realization. I was walking backstage with Nick D. I realized I had an obligation to women everywhere at that moment–and I fulfilled it.
I dropped my eyes and I gazed upon the most gorgeous denim-clad backside I had ever seen. He walked just enough to press those firm globes into the denim and release them a moment later with the next stride. The cloth hugged him, and it was one of the most delicious sights I’d ever seen in my life. Squeezable Tush. I wondered if I could bottle it.
“Enjoying the view?” he asked.
My eyes shot up to his, where he was peeking over his shoulder at me about to push the door open. Fire rushed into my cheeks. Let’s see, I had proved I was graceless, easily flustered, worked at a BDSM club, and had absolutely no stealth to even grab a glimpse of the World’s Most Fantastic Backside. I’d probably dump the soup down the front of my shirt.
His eyes sparkled mischievously, though, as he looked at me. I took a chance. “Hmm. It could be a little better. Could you just turn to the right a little?” He laughed, and obliged me.
Oh, it was a perfect ass.

Synopsis

Fear.

It’s the last thing I remembered.

I was afraid.

Afraid to fight, afraid to run… afraid to breathe.

Then, everything had gone dark. As if life was finally hearing my pleas, my cries to end the torment. To end the fear.

But even in the dark, I still felt it.

I always felt it.

My life had been a ricochet of one event leading to the next. Bouncing back and forth from good to bad. Happiness to despair. Hope to fear.

My name is Arianna West. I’m stronger now. Steady. Alive.

I can find a way to survive on my own. I can see what is coming for me. I can channel my fear into strength.

Except… I didn’t see Jack.

And Jack changed everything.

For readers 18+ due to language, violence, and sexual content.

Excerpt

I laughed. A laugh so deep that the muscles in my abdomen flexed. How long had it been since I had felt that? Too long. I hadn’t really laughed in a long time and something so simple had brought it out of me.

Jack had brought it out of me.

“God, I missed that laugh,” Jack whispered.

I went silent, so suddenly that my breath couldn’t keep up and it came rushing out with the emotion that had been built up inside of me.

Tears immediately sprang to my eyes and the heaviness in my chest was back.

My life had changed so much. Everything had changed.

“Jack…”

“Ari, please don’t cry.”

He had turned his body towards me and was holding my face in his hands. The tears running down my cheeks didn’t make it far. He wiped each one away.

He saw the moment my control slipped and I just couldn’t seem to stop the tears. That’s when he pulled me into his arms. Arms that had always made everything better. Strong fingers combed through my hair, down my temple, across my jaw, then retraced their way back up and into my hair once more. He was giving me whatever comfort he could while I sobbed on his chest.

I should have been embarrassed about the quick change in my mood. I should have felt ridiculous. Childish. With Jack, though, I never had to worry about being anyone but myself no matter who I was now.

“So much is gone,” I said in a broken and weak voice. “So much is missing from me.”

“No, Ari. You’re still in there, babe, just a little harder to reach.”

I shook my head. In denial? I wasn’t sure. He was only half right.

“I’ve bent too far for too long. I’m broken,” I whispered. So much regret came pouring out of me and I couldn’t control it.

I had been slowly breaking for three years and my determination to move on was waning much faster than I could ever keep up with.

Jack buried his fingers in my hair and I felt the press of his lips on the top of my head. When he spoke, the tone of his voice sounded defeated. Resigned. “The world breaks everyone, and afterward, many are strong at the broken places.”

I sniffed as the rumble in his chest vibrated against my cheek. His shirt was wet from my tears and I knew I looked like a mess, but I looked up at him anyway.

“What is that from?” I asked.

“What? You don’t think I could come up with something so profound by myself?” he teased.

“I know damn well you could, Jack.”

He looked at me for a moment, his eyes searching mine and his fingers sweeping a lock of hair back behind my ear. If I didn’t know any better, I would think he was reading my mind, seeing all my secrets, all my broken places. “It’s Ernest Hemingway. He said that.”

“Do you believe it?”

“I do. So much so that I tattooed it on my shoulder the first chance I got,” he mumbled with a short chuckle.

I glanced down at his shoulder. It was too dark to see much of anything, but the moonlight streaming in the window showed enough when he lifted his shirt sleeve. The words were there, permanently inked into his skin just above a complex shape that I couldn’t quite make out.

Review

5 STARS!!!!!

It’s so hard to explain how I felt about this book. It was amazing but it’s more than that. I don’t have words to describe it. I was engrossed in this book from the very first word. It sucked me in and kept me reading for hours. Life stopped for me but came to life for Arianna and Jack. My heart hurt for half the book and exploded with hope and love for the other half. Arianna’s story is so tragic. It’s a situation that is really hard to write about but Jessica Wilde did an amazing job to bring forth the emotions of a person in that situation. Arianna is amazingly strong. She set forth to restart her life even after her ex found her again. She wasn’t going to let anyone stop her from starting over. I loved Jack from the first moment he entered the book. Sweet, caring, lovable, and HOT!…. It was great to see him there taking care of Arianna, never giving up with the hope that one day she would come around. I love to see big macho men showing a sweeter and softer side. It makes me love them even more.

Jack and Arianna are a perfect love story. A love from long ago showing up in your life years later. There to help you with the hard parts of life and showing you how much you are truly loved. Giving you the strength to try again and to move on. This is seriously a must read book.

About The Author

I live in Morgan Utah with my husband, daughter, and dog, Kolo. I write as often as my active daughter will let me and my husband has the patience of a saint. I find inspiration from dreams, people I meet, and life experiences. When I write, I usually end up drinking one too many cans of Peace Tea, eating three too many Fruit by the Foot fruit snacks, and accidently kicking my pup and best buddy, Kolo, too many times since he loves to sleep under my desk at my feet.
I started writing as a teen, but my fear of the unknown won out every time and I threw everything out. After becoming a mother and deciding to stay at home to raise my beautiful little girl, I tried again when I couldn’t stop thinking of ideas. I loved every minute, every hour of sleep lost, and every character that came to life in my mind.
It’s strange, but my favorite moments are when I have writer’s block because I can turn to my husband and find inspiration through him by just doing what we do best together. Talking, laughing, and just being in love. He doesn’t like to read, but he never stops encouraging me to keep going.
Writing has become an important part of my life and every book has a special place in my heart.

Spotlight: The Demon Wars Series by Lauren Peyton

Demonically Yours (The Demon Wars 1)

Amazon

 ***Blurb***
He was built for sin…
I fell for a dark stranger, a painfully beautiful one. With his impressive physique and exotic accent, I couldn’t keep him out of my dreams. But when those dreams turned to nightmares I started looking for answers. I’d asked the questions before, but I’d always been kept in the dark. Who Am I? Why Am I Different?

I demand the truth, I have to know what my part in this war is before it’s too late… And why the vision of this dark stranger captivates me…

***Excerpt***

It was a dream. It was all just a dream. A very screwed up, emotionally damaging, horrible dream. Ava’s breath caught in her throat. Her dark hair hung in waves below her shoulders. Somehow she had flung herself up into a sitting position. Her breathing was labored as if she had really just been running for her life. She could feel the hysteria bubbling from her gut. The dream had been vivid. She looked down at her knee, remembering that she had fallen in the damn nightmare, and saw that it was bruised, but she dismissed the injury. She worked at a bar, and she always had unexplainable cuts and bruises.Slowly, she climbed out of the queen-size bed she loved. It was warm, and a pillow top, but no matter the comfort level it could not keep her nightmares at bay. They were getting to be more and more frequent. Ava opened the nightstand beside her bed, took out the leather bound journal and matching pen then started towards the kitchen. She needed tea. When she turned the light on, the soft hum in the background drew her attention. She hated dead silence. Silence reminded her of the nightmares. She filled the antique kettle her uncle valued. He had told her many stories over tea. He loved to talk about her mother, his youngest sister. She was the most vibrant of them all. She had big plans in life, but had died much too young. That is why Ava intended on living her mother’s dreams for her, but her uncle did not think it was the best idea and constantly tried to dissuade her from the idea. She began to write in her journal. Her pen flew over the paper as she wrote out every detail of her nightmare. She wanted to remember this one along with many others. It seemed as if they were happening frequently.

When I was released from Hell it was conditional. My daughter, Ava, sold herself to earn my freedom from the shackles that contained me for so long. Before my wrists could even heal I was summoned by the elders of the lust demon faction and ordered to find a demon who was going to prove vital in the pending demon war. I was to do whatever was necessary to get the information she had. Did I have the strength to torture and kill the demon if necessary after my own imprisonment? The question raged in my mind until I saw the demon…

***Excerpt***

Avaraz was awakened by a playful blow to his stomach and laugh.

“Get up, we need to get you in shape.” Caine was too eager to get Avaraz back into training.

“What about sleep?”

“You like to sleep as much as Ava, we need to train. Your mark has been announced.”

“Call it an inherited trait for her.” Avaraz rolled over and away from the crimson-eyed demon annoying

him.“Let’s go. “ Caine put hands on two spots on the bed and used his upper body strength to flip the mattress and send Avaraz to the floor.

“I swear you act like a ten year old at his first sleep-over Caine. Will you ever grow up?”

“Come, now.”

Caine walked out of the room. Avaraz was half tempted to roll back over and pull blankets over his head, but Caine would return soon and if he wasn’t up there would be some sort of juvenile shenanigans. He regretted asking his daughter’s mate to help him train for the mission. He was awake much too early.

“Why aren’t you off celebrating your mating?” Avaraz hollered to Caine.

“Already did this morning…twice.”
“I did not need to hear that.”
Avaraz’s eyes popped open so his imagination wouldn’t conjure an image of his closest friend and daughter having sex. That would be quite disturbing. He shuddered at even having a possibility of seeing it more than what he saw already. Avaraz got up off the floor and pulled on a pair of shorts that rested low on his hips. He was skinnier than he was before his time on the wall, it would take time for him to rebuild to where he once was.

His hands reached for a plain white tank top, he exited his room to find Caine eating something in the kitchen. Avaraz swore that demon could eat them out of house and home. Caine always had something in his mouth.

“Thank you for the lovely wakeup call.” Avaraz’s voice dripped with sarcasm.

“My pleasure.” Caine spoke with his mouth full. “Where are we going for training?”
“Same place I took Ava. It’s out of the way and no one goes there.” Avaraz looked into Caine’s mind and found the location he had in mind and nodded. “I will follow you.”

Caine stood and shimmered out of the penthouse, Avaraz took a breath and followed behind. He arrived at the warehouse seconds later and Caine was already inside. He could hear the other demon fooling around with mats and barbells for training. Avaraz entered slowly, he still longed for the tender, warm embrace of his bed.

The final mat was finally dropped into place. Caine turned toward Avaraz.

“What do you want to start with? Physical or mental?” Caine asked.

“Mental.” Avaraz answered swiftly. “Offensive or defensive?”
“I’ll start with defense.”
“I won’t take it easy on you, my friend.” “I hope you won’t.” “I’ll beam an image of your daughter and I having sex into your mind. You better keep your shield up or it’ll be all you see, how she gets the thickness delivered every night.” Caine chuckled.

“Sadist. Before you ask, your ass looks fat when you’re nude.” Avaraz had already seen more than he would ever want to see.

“Get to work.”

Caine immediately set in with his attempts to penetrate the shields that Avaraz had in place. The first image came through and almost knocked Avaraz down, his daughter on her knees in front of Caine. No. Avaraz pushed Caine out with a powerful yell.

“Do better.” Caine demanded.

Again the shields were prodded in his mind. It was an internal battle. Neither male moved, but sweat blossomed on their skin, both exerting extreme force to win the battle of wills. Suddenly Caine tried to break one of the shields Avaraz was building quickly His strength and ability were returning to him surprisingly fast. Perhaps the elders had a hand in it he thought.

“Good, my friend.” Caine’s voice echoed.
“What else do you have?” He taunted.

Time is running out, and Elsa must embrace her inner dominatrix to save her friends and family.

***Excerpt***

He looked at Elsa. She was very pretty, and very young. Some men liked that. Still, he couldn’t turn her loose on any of his highbrow clientele. She wouldn’t know what she was doing, and it took a very strong level of confidence and knowledge to know how to inflict pain without harm. She’d be a liability as a dominatrix, but as basically a maid, she’d do. And the dommes would stop complaining to him all the time.

“All right. But she starts at the bottom, and you and Hans are responsible for her. She must learn to clean every single piece of equipment properly and quickly, and if she messes up, if even one of the dommes complains about her, that’s it. No job!”

He walked out and left them standing there. After the door closed, Hans grabbed Elsa up in his muscular arms and swung her around. “You got the job! Fantastische, mein Liebling!”

Smiling hugely and feeling as if a weight had been lifted off her shoulders, Elsa laughed, then kissed Hans on his cheek. “Danke, mein Freund! Danke, David!” Hans set her down and she hugged David, too.

“Don’t thank me yet. We have to work hard to make you the best maid these dommes have ever seen. And in between, we’re going to teach you the art of dominance and submission. It’s really the only way you’ll be able to make any real money to survive.” Hans was so happy to hear his lover say this that he kissed him full on the lips. It turned a little sloppy as they momentarily forgot Elsa was in the room.

“Geez, guys. Cool it down!” She laughed at their antics. Her friend was so in love with David, and so happy to be working with him at Club Sexo as a ticket

agent, and now his best girlfriend would be working there, too. Hans was over the moon.

That’s how it began. She’s worked hard and listened to everything the guys taught her. David showed her how to hog-tie a man in a way that was painful and pleasurable, but not permanently damaging. He also secured Mistress Lena’s cooperation to allow Elsa to observe her work so she could learn how it’s done first hand. In two years, she’d gone from maid to dominatrix. In another year, she was a top-draw attraction at the club and in high demand. Two years after that, she’d quit at the top of her game in the BDSM business after a life-changing event. Her brother, who meant everything to her, had been kidnapped by a known sex trafficking criminal and taken out of Germany to Amsterdam at the whim of a sick pedophile named Peter Knudson.

Everything changed then. The true miracle, however, was that they got Anno back before any harm could come to him. That never happens, according to Kriminalkommissar Joseph Heinz who was the lead detective on the case. Heinz used his connections through Interpol to help get Anno back. They wouldn’t have even known where to find him had it not been for new friends she’d made at the time, Sarah Brown and Paul Christiansen. Actually, it was because of the latter that Anno had been taken to begin with. The pedo was Paul’s uncle who’d sexually abused him as a child. It turned out that Knudson had targeted Anno on a recruiting mission in Berlin, and he blamed his nephew for causing him to lose out on gaining Elsa as an employee, a ruse he invented to get his hands on Anno.

Heinz brought her brother home safe and sound, and unharmed. Since that day, Elsa vowed to find a new career, one that would have her home at night to better keep an eye on Anno, and one in which she would be around a better quality of people. She really wasn’t quite sure what that career might be, but she told Heinz and his partner, Birgitta Mahler, that somehow, she wanted to help others, and maybe work in a field where she could fight against people like Knudson.

***Excerpt***

He lifted the pitcher of green beer and mugs off the bar, held them over his head and began the trek back to his buddies at their table. Avoiding the tables along the wall this time, he crossed the middle of the room. All was fine until a guy had stepped on a girl’s foot, and she jumped back and into Cole’s path. The entire pitcher of green beer emptied over the petite blonde standing at Cole’s left hip, soaking her.

She stood in shock partly because the beer was cold and partly because her wet blouse was now transparent. She felt like everyone in the bar was looking at her. All she could think at that moment was how glad she was that she had put on one of her good bras to go out that night.

From his vantage point, Cole looked down into the valley that was her cleavage. Rising gently from the pink lace bra that she wore he saw the swell of her generous breasts. Cole dropped the empty pitcher and mugs and immediately removed his T-shirt. He ignored the hoots and hollers from the crowd at the woman’s revealing top and his striptease-like move, and covered the petite blonde with his shirt. Her friends quickly ushered her into the restroom. He watched the trio go into the women’s room. She was the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. It all happened too fast and like that she was gone, swept away. Jeff came over to where Cole still stood to check out what was going on with his friend.

“You okay?”

“Yes. No. Yes. I’m going to my car to get an extra shirt. Don’t let her leave.”

“Who?”

“The gorgeous blonde,” Cole yelled over his shoulder to Jeff as he ran out of the pub.

Cole had an extra golf shirt with his clubs in the trunk of his car. So he went out to the parking lot, retrieved the golf shirt and put it on. Eventually he began laughing to himself over the situation, but he did feel bad for the woman he had soaked, imagining her embarrassment at suddenly having so much of her body revealed in the crowded bar. She took his breath away. The small woman was quite beautiful. Cole was recalling the sight of her deep blue eyes, creamy skin and soft pink lips when his thoughts were disturbed by noise a few cars away in the parking lot. It was her, putting her wet shirt in her car. Cole immediately thought Jeff hadn’t done as he’d asked him to. Luckily, Cole ran into her outside before she got away. The sight of this woman wearing his T-shirt sent Cole’s thoughts racing.

“I am so sorry,” Cole said as he walked over to her.

“It was accident. Don’t worry about it.” She held her hand out to Cole and introduced herself. “Sara Thompkins.” Looking him up and down, she couldn’t believe he was so incredibly drop dead gorgeous. She didn’t know men this good looking really did exist.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you,” Cole said, and he meant it. He grasped the small hand that she offered. “Cole Becker.” He looked into her eyes and felt he could see right into her soul. What he saw appeared to be a glow within her. He’d never experienced anything like that before and, frankly, it scared him. Her smile bore evidence of the warmth that filled her heart. Cole decided that he, from here on out, would make certain that no one ever extinguished her inner light. Her heart would never have the opportunity to grow cold.

“You’re not leaving, are you, Sara?”

She hesitated before answering. “I was considering calling it a night.” Gold flecks in his brown eyes shimmered in the reflection of the parking lot lights, mesmerizing her.   “Please don’t leave. Come back inside. Please, Sara. I’ll buy you a beer. I’ll even let you carry it.”

She giggled. “Seriously, thank you for the use of your shirt and your quick reaction. I had no idea how transparent that blouse became when it got wet!” Sara blushed and averted her gaze from Cole. She was a little embarrassed but also had found his eyes so mesmerizing it was hard for her to hold their gaze for any length of time.

Cole smiled. She was captivating. “I’m sorry that my technique in covering you with it was less than gentlemanly. I know that I grabbed a breast at one point. It was purely accidental, I assure you.” It might have been an accident that time, but he wouldn’t have minded being given the opportunity to go there again.

Sara bit her bottom lip to keep a laugh from escaping. She felt her cheeks warm and knew they were likely red. He probably was telling the truth, though she thought she wouldn’t mind getting to know this man well enough that he’d decide to stake claim of her whole chest. No, no, her whole body.

“Oops.” Cole tried to look as innocent as possible. “Let’s go back in.”

Cole’s puppy dog eyes and pleading helped her make up her mind to stay.

He was glad she didn’t object when he placed his hand on the small of her back and began to guide her back to the pub’s entrance. Not only that she hadn’t had a hissy fit, this woman was going back into the pub, not letting the incident ruin her evening. Cole really liked this woman already.

Sara and her entourage mingled with Cole and his friends on and off throughout the night.

“Man, Jeff gets one woman to dance with him and now he’s got all the confidence in the world. He’s danced with both of Sara’s friends several times now.” Bob’s jealousy was evident. “Maybe, but still Dan’s the Man, Bob.” Cole nodded in the direction of where Dan stood kissing Sara’s friend, Denise. Cole laughed at how defeated Bob looked. “Aw, come on. You haven’t exactly been sitting around alone all evening. I’m not buying your ‘oh, woe is me’ act.”

Bob left Sara and Cole sitting at the table and headed toward the bar. They could hear him spouting foolish pick- up lines along the way. Sara and Cole turned to each other and laughed.

“Oh, Bob’s a flirt. He’ll have a girl on his arm in mere moments,” Cole said.

“I’m going to check in with Denise, see if she thinks she’ll need a ride home. Then I think I’m going to call it evening.”

“I’ll wait by the door to walk you to your car.”

Sara returned without Denise, who’d decided she would get a ride home from Dan. After saying goodnight to the rest of her friends, Cole walked Sara to her car.

“Well, Cole, how may I return your shirt?” Sara looked down at Cole’s T-shirt that she was wearing. It was several sizes too big for her.

“I’ll be back in Greenville on Thursday. Care to meet me at the bistro downtown for dinner? You could return it to me then.”

“Sure. How about seven o’clock?” Sara suggested.

“Perfect.” He leaned in and kissed Sara ever so lightly on her lips. “Good night, Sara Thompkins,” Cole whispered.
