Spotlight and Interview: Safe with Him (The Safe Series 2) by Tina Bass

Safe With Him

Bree Winters grew up distrusting cops and all they stood for, with only her brother to take care of her. After years of being forced to live apart, Bree moves to the small town of Mt. Eve with two goals in mind: to once again have her brother nearby and turn the dream she’s worked years to accomplish into a reality. Now with one goal met and her dream so close, she’s thrust into a situation filled with the things she hates the most…deception, lies, and cops.

Draco Vittore grew up in a life he didn’t want. At a very young age Draco discovered the true meaning of ‘bad guys’ and the type of person he didn’t want to be. Now a Virginia State police officer in their specialty unit, he’s good at two things:being a cop and picking up women—and he’s never had a problem in either department. His rules are simple—be the best damn cop he can be and never bring a woman home.

Until—a chance encounter involving a broken shower, a situation he won’t back down from, and a woman he can’t seem to forget.

When Bree’s life is threatened with a fate worse than death, Draco will do anything to keep her safe. Will he cross a line he can’t come back from? Or will both of their pasts keep her from being… Safe With Him?

Bree walked across the parking lot and through the trees to his back yard. She had to be desperate, no beyond desperate, to be going anywhere with a cop, much less to his freakin’ house.
“Yep, you’re crazy and stupid.” She mumbled to herself.
“What?” Draco asked.
Oh crap, was that out loud? “Nothing. Soooo, are you married?” She didn’t really expect him to be truthful about it.
“NO!” He choked. “What the hell made you think that?”
She shrugged her shoulders. “No reason. Just making conversation. So what are you, the wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am kind of guy? No conversation required?”
He stumbled in his step and then grunted something under his breath.
“Easy there weeble-wobble. You fall down from way up there, you may break something.” She smirked at him.
“Nice to know you care.” He flashed that sexy grin at her.
“You break something and I’ll be out of a shower.” She shrugged her shoulders again and watched his grin fade. Good she told herself. Nobody needs to be staring at that oh-so-very sexy grin. Stop it! She scolded herself.
“He’s a freakin’ cop; just look at him.” She mumbled. Then made the mistake of looking over at him where he had just taken a few steps ahead of her, so she got a good view of his back and his backside. Shouldn’t uniform pants be—not so tight? She thought to herself, just looking at that firm butt and tight muscular thighs as he walked. “Bet he works out.” She continued to mumble to herself. Yep, at a gym. A coed gym so he could be all cocky and sexy and— “Stop!” She hissed out loud to herself.
“Why?” He stopped and turned around and looked at her. Okay so maybe she said all of that a little too loudly.
“Uh…you walk too fast.” She covered fast.
“Sorry.” He said with another hint of a blush?
What was that? Did he have the ability to pull something like that out on a whim? Yeah, he probably did. It was probably one of his many cocky superpowers that made him think he could get any girl at any time just by flashing that sexy grin and adding a hint of a blush that made him look too dang sexy for a girl’s peace of mind. He just stood there while she took the few extra steps that brought her up beside him. “So. You live alone?”
“Yeah, just me.” He started walking beside her again.
Great, she thought, another bachelor pad that will probably look like her brother’s. “What’s with guys and cleaning? Did they think someone’s gonna’ sneak in and cut off their balls if they picked up a broom every once in a while?” She mumbled.

~What are you currently working on?

Safe in the Storm (Book 3 in The Safe Series)

~What writing advice do you have for aspiring authors?

Write what you know with a dash of make-believe, a pinch of “Oh Sh*t!” sprinkled with a little “ha ha” through out. And keep on writing!!

~Are you an organized author or scattered?

I want to say organized, and I try, but truly I’m so scattered. I have notes all over the house written on anything from notepads (which I bought for that purpose), to the back of an envelope or receipt and even on a paper towel.

~Do you plot out your story or write as it goes?

I write as it goes.

~Do you have any strange writing habits?

Not sure as they are not “strange” to me, but a few of my habits include candy, music and Mtn Dew. Or maybe they’re more of an addiction than habit, not really sure.  But I always have some kind of candy, right now its Jelly Belly jelly beans and Twix bites, Mtn Dew, regular not diet, and my playlist which tends to grow as I write.

~Do you have writers block and how do you work around it?

So far I haven’t had “writers block” so much as a “scene block” from time to time. Basically it’s the process of moving from one scene to the next.  That gap in between,  that can stall me out for a small amount of time until I can figure it out.

~Do you work on 1 story at a time or multiples?

I try to work on one story at a time, but most often I end up writing a scene for a future book. Right now I have so many folders saved with different scenes from about 10 future books.

~What is your favorite genre to read?

~What is the most wacky/crazy weird thing you received from a fan?

Hmmm…. See that’s one I can’t answer yet!  I haven’t been writing that long and don’t have those die hard fans that do the wacky and weird.  I had a fan that made me a wonderful you tube video about my first book.  But, I don’t consider that weird or wacky… just wonderful!

~What are your favorite hobbies?

Reading, writing, listening to music, and watching old (or not so old), shows on Netflix.

~If you had a warning label what would it say?

That is a tough one.  My best friend has said for years that I’m a “Saint” and I guess I’m pretty even tempered, and will take a lot.  But, when I lose it, and it takes a lot, so maybe, “Contents can explode when under pressure.”  Hahahaha.

~Favorite quote?

Hell to the yeah!
