Review: One Simple Mistake By Deanndra Hall

One Simple Mistake (Citadel, #1)One Simple Mistake by Deanndra Hall
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh My Hotness!

This is my first book by Deanndra Hall but it won’t be my last! I found myself quickly drawn into the complex dynamics between everyone. I know this is book one of the spin off series, so I will be going back and reading her other series, Love Under Construction. I think it would have made it easier to place who is who, and quicker for me to delve into the story of Doug and Vivian. That said, I was fully able to figure out who went with who & by chapter 2 I was fully engaged.
Doug is complex, hard working and struggling with being in love with someone he can’t have. Vivian has tried to find love and been left behind by everyone. The person she is desperately in love with happens to be married to her boss and friend. When an embarassing encounter gives Vivian and Doug a moment to bond, they hope to find what all of their friends have. Along the way, they must learn to trust each other and themselves. Along the way there are missteps and mistakes, things to work through and accept.

I loved how open Deanndra’s characters are. They weren’t perfect, cookie cutter copies. The story line is unique and stayed floating around in my head and heart for days after reading One Simple Mistake. I am so thankful I took a chance and opened this book!!!

He slides me down his body and I feel how hard he is. He’ll get no complaints from me. I pull on his nipple ring, getting a moan. He lifts my blouse. “Fuck, I like the Bears,” he says while pulling the chain. My new animal nipple jewels get pulled tight, sending jolts of pleasure through me. “You’ve been walking around with no damn bra and I made you wait?” I smile at him. I actually took it off when I first came upstairs but there are some things you should just leave alone. This would be one of them.

He sits on the chair and puts me facing away on his lap. I like this position. His hands pull me so my back is on his chest. He lifts my hips and slides in hard and fast, I grab his forearms and hold it back; it’s too soon for me to come like a teenager. Dammit! His hands move, one on my pussy and one on my nipple, pulling the chain by stretching his thumb out. Shit, he’s going to tease the hell out of me. “Come on my cock, Tiny Dancer, I want you nice and wet for me.” His hand is circling my clit, causing my hips to circle with his motion, while his teeth scrape down my neck to my shoulder. It doesn’t take me long and he knows just when I’m ready to explode. He bites my shoulder, squeezes my nipple, pulling on the chain and pinches my clit; it hits me all at once and I’m gone.

Still dazed he moves to the bed, putting me face down with my feet on the floor. I’m still catching my breath and he’s hammering into me. Just as I’m building again he pulls out, making me cry out, “No!”

“Oh, babe, I’m not even close to done with you.” His voice is low and husky; I get a chill down my back hearing how much he’s affected.

I hear a condom and moan. Baby oil drips on my ass and he’s pushing his way in. Oh dear lord! I cry out, “All the way!” When the initial burn goes away I’m moaning. Sliding in and out slowly is making me crazy. He pulls out and I whine another ‘no.’

“My bad girl wants it all tonight.” He puts my knees on the bed and folds my body so my stomach is on them then he slides back in. I know he does this so he doesn’t have to bend so far. It makes me smile. He slams me from behind and I stop smiling and start moaning. Holy shit, it’s good! “I love seeing my dick sliding in your sweet tight ass, babe.” He’s breathing heavy. Bending, he bites my shoulder and snakes his arm under me, pushing my hand down to my pussy. “Come for me, Tiny Dancer. Let me hear how you like that cock in your ass,” he says at my ear.

I feel everything but hear only him. He’s pulling the chain again, making my nipples ache, then he pulls out and slides in my pussy hard and fast again. I come screaming for him, as if he can save me. I feel him fall at my side, feel me being moved onto his shoulder, feel his chest rise and fall, but my brain is floating.

Author Interview

~What are you currently working on?

Working on getting all my books formatted and into Beau Coup for republication. Once that is done I will be letting Jake from the Baxter’s Series loose. He’s not happy waiting for his time on paper.

~What writing advice do you have for aspiring authors?

Aspiring authors – Don’t read the reviews! Keep moving forward. Promotion is a lot harder than you think and very time consuming. Make friends with other newbies and work together to promote so you have enough time to actually write.

~Which of your characters is your Book Boyfriend? Why?

BBF- I have two Jamie from the baxter’ and Danny from the MC. They are both my perfect other half. not afraid to screw up and always taking responsibility for it. I love that.

~Are you an organized author or scattered?

Organized. I don’t keep outlines and all that but I do have to keep a routine. I keep notes at the bottom of my page, pics in specific folders, that sort of thing. I am new to the author thing so I don’t have all the habits of an author yet. Give me some time and I’ll pick up some crazy rituals.

~Do you plot out your story or write as it goes?

Plot out- no my characters always surprise me with the things they do. I have an idea and the characters seem to give me the rest. They tend to have a mind of their own and I let them have their way. As long as my point comes across I just let it happen.

~Do you have any strange writing habits? Do you have writers block and how do you work around it?

I haven’t had writers block, I have had writers withdrawals. Cleaning the books up for the publisher has taken some time and I find myself writing five paragraph emails to answer questions from readers.

~Do you work on 1 story at a time or multiples?

One story at a time.

~What is your favorite genre to read?

I am a King, Koontz and Rice fan. I like the long drawn out scary stuff. I have recently (over last couple of years) read the quick funny Evanovich series. I loved it and started with other romance books. I have so many on my tablet but never know what to read. so I write. lol

~What is the most wacky/crazy weird thing you received from a fan?

2 readers were fighting over a character (they still do) I thought it was the funniest thing…I made the guy up…anyway, one of the readers sent me a pic of tears on her cheek telling me the other reader is being mean and I need to take the character away from her. The teary reader is now my partner in crime, I mean Street Team, and good friend Barbi Barnard.

~What are your favorite hobbies?

I swim, miss the ocean but pools do. I live in high elevation and love the view. Driving my mountain range is a favorite pastime. Music and coffee run close seconds on my time. It takes 40 minutes to get to dunkin donuts. I blast the music the whole way.

~Do you like tattooed bad boys or sweet good guys?

Definitely tattooed guys.

~If you had a warning label what would it say?

Caution: dirty mind explodes at will. (this is from Barbi describing me)

~Favorite quote?

“Some people have scars on the inside where you can’t see them. some on the outside where you can. No matter where the scars are they make you stronger.”

Review: The Only One for Her by Carlie Sexton

When is a heart too broken to fix?

Just days before his wedding, handsome, successful entrepreneur, Trace Michaels, finds out his love wasn’t enough. With a broken heart, Trace lands in Maui, hoping to find solace in the beautiful island. What he finds is beauty, but in the form of an alluring, grieving woman. One he feels an instant and inescapable attraction to.

Young widow, Lindy Bernard, had her heart broken when her husband died. In Maui to reluctantly close a chapter in her life, she suddenly finds herself in the arms of a drop-dead, gorgeous Adonis. After his relentless pursuit, Lindy and Trace begin to find healing…only to have that endangered by a secret threatening to tear them apart.

All is not what it seems in Trace’s company, and it seems one woman has set out to ruin him. Can he juggle the odious plots against him while chasing the woman of his heart? Will she wait or are some hearts too broken to be fixed?

I couldn’t get the image of Lindy out of my mind—her long, golden hair waving in the breeze. The black halter dress, which showed off her gorgeous form. When I grabbed her to stop her from falling in, the feel of her body against mine had begun something to me. I felt the need to protect her. A desire to know her. It was the strangest thing that had ever happened to me. I hadn’t felt overpowered with emotion like this before. It wasn’t just physical attraction. Something about Lindy just called to me. My heart had gone out to her and when she walked away, she somehow took my heart with her., I wanted to know everything about her, but I’d only gotten her name.

Amy’s Review

4.5 STARS!!!!

Starting The Only One for Her, I was excited to see where Carlie Sexton went with this new book. I surely did not expect what I read. This book had a lot going on. With every turn when I thought I knew what was going to happen or who was doing what … I was wrong every time.

Poor Lindy and the life she had to go through. I couldn’t imagine dealing with all she did. I am so thankful that Dane was there for at least most of it. I just wish we could have gotten more of Dane in this book. Before everything happened. Trace is drop dead gorgeous, extremely ripped, sweet as sugar, sexy as sin and smart as hell. The total freaking package in that man. He had me swooning for him from the beginning. The crap he dealt with sucked too but thankfully Lindy was there to help with some of it. These two make a really cute couple. This would be that couple you see out and think “Ugh they make me sick!” They are that cute together. Lol.

This is a great read and I had fun watching Lindy find herself again and seeing these two come together. Oh and let me say I HATE Randy. Lol. If you haven’t read a Carlie Sexton book this is a great one to start with.

Amy’s Review:

5 STARS!!!!!

“Oh, my beauty. Your mother melted when I burped.”

As I’ve gone through each book in this series I have fallen in love with every character that Jessica Wilde has wrote about. But from the very beginning in Leverage when I got my first glimpse of Liam I declared he was my favorite and that I officially had a crush on an older man. Liam stole my breath from the first time he appeared. He has been my favorite through every single book even though I was just getting small parts of him. That is until Protector. I was antsy with anticipation to start Protector so that I could get more of the man that I fell head over heels for. Jessica Wilde did not disappoint.

“Tears don’t belong on a face so beautiful.”

In Protector the story still continues with the family after Missing. Everything is still moving about as normal but we get flash backs of when Liam is remembering Isabelle/Izzy. We get to see the struggles they both went through when they first met so long ago in Ireland. The hardship that Izzy was so brave to pull herself out off. It was a struggle but she did it. The love that these two shared through this whole book is astonishing.  To watch Liam remember his wife not only in the past but in the present brought happiness and tears to my eyes. It gave me full body chills. These two were a match made in heaven. She truly lives on in her kids and shines through with every action they do.

One of my favorite parts during Protector is when Ash went into labor.

The sound of liquid splashing made every pair of eyes drop down to the area of wood floor beneath Ash.

Gus and Con practically jumped away clinging to each other with expressions or horror on their faces.

“Umm, Ash. You just peed,” Gus pointed out, looking pale and terrified. Liam wanted to smack him in the back of the head like everyone had over the years.

“It’s not pee, you moron!” Ash shouted. “My water just broke.”

Gus and Con never seem to disappoint in any book. They will make you laugh even with tears pouring down your face. Emily and Aiden are amazing in Protector too and I hope that the author decides to write more about this family so I can see where they end up.

“I wish with all my heart that I could have met her.”

“You already have, love. Conall is a part of her and the way he loves you comes from Isabelle herself.”

Protector had my emotions all over the place. One minute I would be laughing, then I would be crying and then smiling. I probably cried through at least half of this book. Yes, I said HALF so make sure to have tissues around. I’m probably just being a cry baby, but I really connected with this series and I couldn’t help but feel all the emotions they did. This series is an attention grabbing, heart racing, soul searing, tear chasing, love soaring, family embracing kinda series.

Review: Missing (The Brannock Siblings Book 3) by Jessica Wilde

There are two things in this life that Gus Brannock truly loves; his family and his job. His family is growing and he wants what his brother and sister have before the job he’s worked so hard for takes its toll. The woman he’s got his eye on, however, isn’t interested in being with a man who risks his life every day. When the unexpected friendship with the sassy red head he used to hate turns into something Gus just doesn’t want to live without, he will do whatever it takes to have her. The hazards of his job as a detective for missing children may end up proving to be too much, but there’s a reason Aiden was brought into his life and nothing will stand in his way to keep her there.

Aiden Murphy used to hate the handsome jerk next door until a surprising discovery spun her world in another direction. Her life of devotion to her sister and niece has been her biggest strength with the exception of her art. That is, until Gus turns out to be the one thing that has been missing from that life all along. Aiden must decide if the unknown is worth the risk of loving the dedicated detective or if being pulled into his world is more than she can handle. When Gus becomes the only way for her to keep the people she loves most safe, will she understand why he treasures her untried strength or will she let her fear of the unknown decide for her?

For readers 18+ due to strong language and sexual situations.

Amy’s Review:

5 STARS!!!!!

Wow! I loved every minute of this amazing book. Gus is hot, sweet, sexy, and a smart ass. Reading about him and Aiden going back and forth at the beginning had me laughing so hard. I loved the banter and pranks between them. Aiden/Red is a smart and sassy firecracker. She’s quick on her comebacks and is perfect for Gus. Watching these two grow closer together even with a bump in the road was fun. I even teared up a few times. I loved these two. There was one part during the story that had my heart exploding and putting Gus above his brothers on my favorites list. He is absolutely amazing.

I love the Brannock family. They are awesome. When someone is in trouble they all come running without question. They hold their family above anything else and they welcome people with open arms. I can’t wait to read Protector to see what happens next.

I have to admit that the Epilogue killed me. Tears poured out of my eyes as I read it. And I don’t know why because believe me it wasn’t sad, but I have a soft spot in my heart for Liam.

Review: Conned (The Brannock Siblings Book 2) by Jessica Wilde

Conall Brannock takes his job seriously. He doesn’t get attached, he doesn’t ask questions, and he protects his family at all costs. Nothing will change that. Not even the sweet, green eyed witness that just burst into his life and shifted his world. He has one job to do; protect Emily until she can testify. He can’t let his interest in her get in the way, but the more he finds out about her, the more he can’t help but wonder how the beautiful broken girl got into this mess in the first place. And the longer he takes to learn the truth, the deeper he falls for her.

Emily Dawson has a job to do. Stay off the grid, testify, and hopefully get her brother back. He’s all she has left of the family she struggled so hard to hold together and she would do anything to keep him safe. Even if it means she has put herself in harm’s way or that she has conned everyone into believing she saw something she didn’t. She knows where her loyalties lie, but her stoic yet gentle protector and his crazy family makes her question everything she once knew.

Loyalty can be one sided.
Family isn’t always blood.
And honesty can destroy everything she has come to love.

For readers 18+ due to strong language and sexual content.

Amy’s Review:

5 STARS!!!!!

Holy hell! Jessica Wilde is killing me with these men. Conned was more intense than Leverage and I wasn’t sure that was possible. I’m still loving the dad though. Lol.

Conall and Emily. I just finished reading this and I’m not sure I can get my thoughts together. I absolutely loved these two. Conall might possibly be better than Lucas from Leverage and I really thought no one would top him. But Conall definitely does. He has the same going for him as Lucas. Hot, sweet, smart, caring and good at his job. But there is just something about him that pulled me in so deeply into the book. I couldn’t stop reading. Couldn’t get enough of him.

Emily is a sweet girl who is just trying to look out for her brother. He gets her mixed up in some crazy shit and gets her to do things for him. Of course she’s smart and knows it’s wrong but wants to help her brother out. Her only family left. I really felt for her. I couldn’t imagine going through what she did. A lot of parts during this book ripped my heart out and a lot made me want to explode with happiness. My emotions will be out of wack for a while.

When these two finally come together I swear it was earth shattering. Of course the first thought I had was “Finally!” but it was so much more than that. I could feel the tension with these two. It was driving me nuts. Emily definitely has better self control because I would have jumped on him a lot sooner. Ha ha!

I have only ever had the urge to peak at the ending one other time before I started reading this series. With the first two it was a constant struggle with myself not to do it. Just to prepare myself for what would happen. There is so much suspense and mystery on top of the crazy emotions already going on. I am loving these Brannock men and am excited to see what will happen in the next book with Gus Gus.

This series is a MUST read!!!

Review: Leverage (The Brannock Siblings Book 1) by Jessica Wilde

Adventure. That’s all Aislinn ‘Ash’ Brannock wanted in her life. Her dad and two brothers – all cops – got to see it all, but their over-protectiveness made her feel like she had been locked away in a tower with three fire breathing dragons watching her every move. Yes, it was that bad. The only silver lining? Lucas Shade. Her brothers’ best friend growing up, and apparently the only man she will ever love because let’s face it, none of the others even come close. After an unfortunate mistake lands her back in her father’s home, her world is turned upside down and Lucas is there in a tightly wrapped package of serious with a big red bow on top. Life just got interesting, but it comes with a price, one she never wanted to pay.

Detective Lucas Shade never had a real family, but the Brannocks took him in as one of their own and he never took it for granted. Ash was a big reason for why he stuck around, but in order to save himself the beating of a lifetime from her two older brothers, he kept his feelings for her hidden. When the case he has been working on for months takes a turn, Ash could become the leverage the bad guys have been waiting for, but keeping her invisible may destroy everything Lucas has worked so hard for. Good thing Ash is the only person he would give up everything to protect.

For readers 18+ due to language and sexual situations.

Amy’s Review:

5 STARS!!!!!

The Brannock Siblings Series starts with a bang. In this first book we get Ash and Lucas. Two people who loved each other from childhood but could never act on it due to Ash’s overprotective brothers. Lucas is now a hot detective working for Ash’s dad, Liam, the Police Chief. I loved Ash because she wasn’t a whiny needy girl. She was real. She stepped up when needed and did what she had to do. Lucas will be one that’s hard to get over. He’s hot, sweet, smart, and really good at his job. I fell in love with him from the first time I got his POV. I love when I get to see in both characters minds and know how they each felt.

The one person that stole the book for me is the dad. William ‘Liam’ Brannock is amazing. Yeah I’m crushing on an older man. The way he is with Ash and the way he talks melted my heart. The brothers were fun to read about too and I can’t wait to see their story in the coming books.

You get a lot of mystery and action while reading. The suspense of what would happen next drove me nuts. I almost cried within the first five chapters and had to force myself not to peak at the ending to ease some of my worries.

Leverage will keep you engrossed and unable to put it down. An awesome beginning to a series that I can’t wait to finish.

Jessica’s Review:

5 STARS!!!!!

His Angel is the second in Samantha Cole’s Trident series, but it’s just as good as Leather & Lace.

His Angel is Ian’s story, his path to Angie. Ian is one of the “Sexy Six Pack”, a group of retired Seals and joint owner of Trident Security. While helping one of the guys move, Ian notices the neighbor Angie. After a quick talk with Angie’s best friend, Ian gets the excuse he needs to spend more time watching her. WHen Angie is stood up by a blind date, she takes a chance and accepts Ian’s offer for dinner. Sparks fly and passions ignite. Soemtimes a fire burns so brightly that it damages everything in it’s path though.

Samantha Cole manages to create a story that completely draws you in. By the middle of the book, I wanted to know more about everyone else, not just the main characters. Mysterious Athos. Soothing Marchos. Tender Jake. Sassy Shelby. The list goes on. Each side character brings a unique viewpoint, making you realize what a well rounded book His Angel is. There are plenty of HOT steamy scenes, sweet tender loving moments, drama and oh my goodness the tears and anger! I may have wanted to throw my kindle at a certian part. I can’t wait to see what happens next with the gentlemen of Trident Security.

Review: Repaired by Melissa Collins

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000026_00037]

Liam Davis is a man without a past. That’s what he wants everyone to believe, anyway. Hell-bent on erasing any memories of his previous life, he knows that starting over is all he can do. Parker Ryan is a man without a future. Sure, he’s a partner in one of New York’s most prestigious law firms, but he’ll never be more than a failure in the eyes of his boss, his father. Rather than break away from his father’s standards, he finds himself mindlessly pursuing them, in turn sacrificing anything that would actually make him happy.

When Liam’s and Parker’s lives collide, the ugly truth about who they really are, and who they hope to become reveals itself when they least expect it. As both of their lives become wrecked beyond all belief, they’ll learn how to rely on each other in their journey to become Repaired.

Amy’s Review:

5 STARS!!!!!

I want to start this out with thanking Melissa Collins so much for not ending the book in a cliffhanger. I think I would have died. She has a way of grabbing you and throwing you in the book. Making you feel the love, hurt, pain and happiness. I can’t get enough of her work.

At about 35% of the book you get the first kiss scene. This scene was so hot and sexy I had to stop and make a Goodreads update.

I’m 35% done with Repaired: OMG! I think I just read the best kiss scene EVER.. Hot … Sexy … Sweet … I’m loving these guys.

That kiss scene has seriously topped all others that I have read. I think my heart stopped as I slowly read each work not once but three times. There were so many emotions behind that first kiss. Took my breath away.

Liam is one damaged man. Slowly learning his pain almost ripped my heart out. The progress you get of him turning his life around is amazing. How he slowly comes into the man he is meant to be. And all that thanks to Parker. I wasn’t sure about Parker at first. He was a bit of a prick. But as I got to know more about him and read their interactions together I fell in love with him. These two as a couple are the perfect fit. They compliment each other, help each other. I loved these two together. I worried through half of the book that something would break them apart but the love they shared and their different strengths kept them together. Not to mention some persistence on Parker’s part helped too.

I loved everything about this book and the characters in it. Another amazing book by a very talented author. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
